What is EMIRATES ID & How to Get it?

The UAE’s Emirates ID is the foundation of the country’s identity management system. The card is issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) for both residents and citizens.  For foreign nationals looking to gain access to the multitude of benefits that the country has to offer, the final piece of the immigration puzzle is to apply for the Emirates ID.

From registering for services to streamlining online transactions, the Emirates ID is the government’s commitment to secure and convenient identity management. At present, over 10 million residents and citizens carry Emirates ID cards, which also makes it the most common form of identification in the region. The Emirates ID provides access to banking, government services, healthcare, and property transactions across the Emirates.

While the government has taken strides to make the application process as seamless as possible, new residents are known to have encountered a few hurdles along the way.  This often leads to significant delays as a result of incomplete documentation or overlooking specific details. This blog covers everything you need to know about the Emirates ID, including its functions, steps to apply for one, and how to get through the entire process without burning your fingers.

The Emirates ID application process follows a structured approach that requires careful timing and thorough documentation preparation. Understanding each step ensures smooth processing and timely card issuance.

1. Fill the Application Form

The process begins with determining eligibility based on visa status and residency category. You can apply online for a new Emirates ID card through the website of Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security – ICP,

Apply offline: By visiting an accredited typing centre or an Amer centre (in Dubai), where staff will fill and submit the application on your behalf.
