Through these highly trying times, the UAE is doing what it has always done, looking after its people and taking a stand towards normalcy. Across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, daily life is returning to a familiar rhythm.
Behind this steady move to normalcy is a proactive government that is taking all measures to bring a sense of calm. Through it all, the message has been consistent and clear: you are not alone and things are being taken care of.
The most meaningful gesture came from the very top. On 6 March, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited civilians receiving treatment at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi a visit that spoke volumes about the kind of leadership the UAE embodies. According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), his message reaffirmed a long-held principle: that everyone who lives in and contributes to this country is part of its community Emirati by belonging, if not by birth.
Over the weeks since, one of the biggest signs of strength has been a resilient economy. According to Gulf News, trading at the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, the Dubai Financial Market, and Nasdaq Dubai resumed normal operations following a precautionary closure in a managed and orderly fashion.
For foreign travellers and expatriates especially, the government’s response has been immediate and decisive. On February 28, the Federal Authority for the ICP suspending all visa overstay fines. This included tourist visas, visit visas, exit permits, and residents with cancelled visas. The government also covered food, accommodation, and travel for stranded passengers, a gesture that brough families together with their loved ones.
“As reported by WAM, Sheikh Mohamed has said: the UAE will remain strong in its unity. The best days are still ahead. Schools reopen on 23 March. Flights are returning to full capacity. Markets are operating normally. Life is coming back to its full rhythm and for businesses, for families, and for every person who calls the UAE home, there is every reason to look forward with confidence.”
For businesses, families, and anyone who calls the UAE home there is strong reason to look forward with confidence and pride.
